Course overview:

The subject areas are directly related to preparing students for a Health and Social Care degree, such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, sociology. Are you a complete beginner at guitar or have attempted it but never developed the confidence to play?

The focus of this course will be on a practical, inclusive approach to the guitar, as well as developing listening skills and very basic music theory.

A cross section of material will be taken from different music genres: pop/rock/folk/country/blues (it won’t cover classical or Spanish music). We will teach you how to read tablature and chord charts.

You will need an acoustic guitar (if you do not already have one, please feel free to contact us for advice) and are advised to buy plectrums and a capo.

This two year part-time qualification gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context. It is designed to lead to an employed or voluntary role in a counselling agency in both health care and non-medical settings. There are 7 mandatory units, which are assessed internally and by external assessment, which consist of a 30min counseling session and an associated 2-hour written exam. Students must also undertake work experience with supervision.
